01

June 2021

Shantanu received a call about a St. Bernard living in terrible conditions, hidden in bushes near the airport.

At that time there was no shelter, no facility and no proper rescue setup. He initially refused. But the caller continued pleading:

“No one is helping her.”

Something made him go back. He went for the rescue with no equipment, no plan — only hope.

02

Beyond labels

When he reached out to organisations for help, rescue and shelter support was refused because she was a breed dog.

“Labels can make people forget that pain feels the same in every soul.”
03

The rescue

When he finally found her, she would not let him come close. After an hour of trying, exhausted and helpless, he opened the car door and said:

“If you want to die here, stay. But if you want to save yourself, come.”

A few seconds later, she stood up, walked slowly and sat inside the car.

04

Her name was Milli

He took her to an old, unused shelter space, arranged it on rent and shifted her there.

He named her: Milli.

At the time he thought he was saving her. He didn’t yet know that she had come to change his life.

05

9 June 2021

On the evening of 9 June 2021, around 4 PM, he noticed that Milli’s stomach was badly bloated.

After checking, he realised she had developed GDV, a life-threatening condition requiring immediate surgery.

06

The search for help

He rushed her into the car and started calling veterinarians. As evening approached, doors began closing.

One place requested an X-ray, but the last available X-ray centre had already closed. It was past 6 PM.

He begged for surgery. He offered written consent. He said he would take full responsibility. Still, they refused.

07

The loss

“Milli died in front of me… looking into my eyes.”

That moment broke something inside him.

Despite contacts.
Despite resources.
Despite trying everything.
He could not save one life.

Depression, sleepless nights and a guilt that words cannot explain followed.

08

From loss to purpose

Months later came the realisation:

“Pain can either destroy you… or build something bigger than you.”

“One day, I will build a hospital where life matters more than protocol… where no dog will die because it is night… because no facility is available… because help came too late.”

The promise, made real

Milli's death became the foundation of this hospital.

What began as one rescue became a mission: a hospital built in Milli’s memory, shaped by compassion and a belief that every life matters.

You did not leave empty-handed, Milli.

You left behind a mission.
You left behind a movement.
You left behind love.
